Ayatollah Qassim’s statement addressing Muslim governments regarding the infringement of the Holy Qur’an

The burning of a copy of the Holy Qur’an is – indeed – a major crime. Various governments – made up of Muslims in Muslim countries – has so far condemned the recent incident that took place in Sweden, and among these governments are among which have normalised [with the Israeli occupation] as well as others which have not normalised.

In the view of the perpetrator of the crime – and those behind him – the burning of the Holy Qur’anic copy has [two forms], one of which is the burning of the written verses, and the other is the burning of concepts, rulings, goals, creed, and Quranic morals, which is the fundamental purpose of burning the honorable copy.

None of the governments in Islamic countries are known to have burned a copy of the Qur’an or allowed it to be done. However, how many of these governments fight the Quranic principles in the Muslim society, fight its principles, concepts, rulings, methodology, and political system? How many of these governments fight the morals and governance of Islam, its culture, its education, its institutions, and its seminaries?! This is the original goal of those who have burned the Qur’anic copy.

O governments, let you be jealous of the Qur’an, the sanctity of its method, and its doctrinal, legislative,

educational, moral, and political contents. May you be jealous of his bearers who fulfill its teachings with knowledge and sincerity. Further, do not make all this [infringement] the object of your ongoing unjust persecution. Do not cooperate against Islam with its foes. And do not support – in practice – what you have condemned [through your verbal condemnations] for burning the written copy of the Noble Qur’an.
